INTERVIEW INSIGHTS #1

1) Hello! Firstly, could you introduce yourself to us?

My name is Priyanka, I am 37 years old and I'm currently working as a domestic helper in Singapore, but I am from Punjab, India.

2) Do you come to Mustafa regularly?

Yes, my employer and I make monthly trips to Mustafa for groceries. I personally come here as well on some of my day-offs to buy clothes and items to ship back to my family in India.

3) What are some of the issues you have faced while shopping in Mustafa?

The language barrier, speaking to you now is a relief to me as I can’t speak English very well. I often have trouble communicating with staff for help in trying to find items that I need. It is also very crowded at times, since I come here on my days-off, so even approaching a staff is difficult for me.

My employer also likes to buy items in bulk since we come monthly, so there is a lot to carry up and down the store.

4) Based on your struggles here, why do you still shop at Mustafa?

The products are cheap here, there is a wide range of variety and it’s all under one roof. Plus, I’m familiar with a lot of these products as they have them back home in India.

5) What do you wish Mustafa would do better in?

I guess better crowd management, it becomes difficult for me to navigate and move around in the store. I wish the queues for check out would move faster as well, sometimes I can spend hours here just trying to get around or buy my stuff.

In the first interview, a 37-year-old domestic helper from Punjab, India, discussed her shopping experiences at Mustafa. Despite facing challenges like a language barrier and crowded conditions during bulk shopping, she values Mustafa for its affordability and

diverse product range. Improvement suggestions included better crowd management and faster checkout queues.
